NEP 2020 Implementation Guidelines

Maa Shakumbhari University, Saharanpur

NEP 2020

Maa Shakumbhari University, Saharanpur, has proactively implemented the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 from the academic session 2021–22, as per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC). This progressive policy aims to reshape higher education through a flexible, multidisciplinary, and student-centric approach. Under NEP 2020, students are offered a wide range of academic choices with the introduction of major, minor, and vocational subjects, promoting holistic and skill-based learning. The policy introduces a Multiple Entry and Exit system—allowing students to earn a Certificate after the first year, a Diploma after two years, and a Bachelor's Degree after three years, with an Honors with Research track available in the fourth year for meritorious students. The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) enables students to accumulate and transfer academic credits digitally across institutions. In line with the policy, co-curricular subjects like Computer Education, Yoga, Physical Education, and NSS are now credit-bearing. Additionally, the university has included several skill-based and vocational programs to enhance employability. With continuous internal evaluation, practical learning, and a focus on research, NEP 2020 ensures a dynamic and future-ready academic environment for all students at MSU.

Key Features of NEP 2020 at MSU
  • ✅ Multidisciplinary & Flexible Curriculum: Choose majors, minors, vocational, and co-curricular subjects for holistic development.
  • ✅ Multiple Entry & Exit Options:
    • 1 Year: Certificate
    • 2 Years: Diploma
    • 3 Years: Bachelor’s Degree
    • 4 Years: Honors with Research (Meritorious students)
  • ✅ Academic Bank of Credits (ABC): Accumulate and transfer credits via the national ABC portal.
  • ✅ No Improvement Exams Policy: No improvements allowed except for low attendance (full semester reappear).
  • ✅ Co-Curricular Creditization: Computer, Yoga, NSS, and similar courses now earn academic credit.
  • ✅ Skill-Based & Vocational Courses: New industry-ready programs to boost employability.
Curriculum & Evaluation

All programs follow a semester-based system with both internal and external assessments. Continuous Internal Evaluation (CIE), project work, and assignments form part of the assessment. Final results are based on written exams, viva, and practicals wherever applicable.

Degree Distinction & Awards

Gold medals and university rankings are awarded only to students completing the full 4-year honors program. Early exits are not eligible for rank-based awards.
